The Next generation WaVelength Meters for the mid-Infrared, Enabled by Upconversion in Waveguides project (NeW-VIEUW) will create a new generation of advanced metrology for mid-infrared (MIR) laser sources.
Novel Wavelength Meters, driven by frequency upconversion, will enable measurements of MIR lasers with record-high precision, speed and sensitivity. The project will develop new upconversion devices for the MIR and deliver a range-extended Wavelength Meter demonstrator system as a platform for product development, exhibiting the feasibility, advantages, and ease-of-use of this approach.
Mid-infrared analytics are a key factor towards sensitive measurement and control systems in industry, medicine, and the environment, and MIR laser sources form their backbone. Advanced metrology with simultaneous leaps in several aspects – speed, sensitivity, resolution – will boost scientific progress, laser engineering, and benefit industrial application.
