The Use of Covesion PPLN Technology
Precilasers utilized a range of Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate (PPLN) crystals from Covesion for second harmonic generation, sum frequency generation and other non-linear wavelength conversions. Critically, the use of Covesion’s PPLN technology allowed Precilasers to obtain wavelengths that could not be achieved solely with fundamental lasers.
The team at Precilasers employed PPLN crystals in a variety of their PPLN-based laser systems (FL-SF509-1-CW, FL-SF 626-5-CW) for applications including precision measurement of Cs Rydberg atoms, quantum computing and semiconductor measurement.
For quantum computation, the PPLN module generated a pump wavelength of 626nm and was used for second harmonic generation (SHG) to generate a wavelength of 313nm, essential for the manipulation of Be+ ions. Experimentation in this exciting area of quantum technology has facilitated advancements and understanding in this field and paved the way for more research and development in the future.
For semiconductor precision measurement, the same module was used for SHG to again, generate a 313nm laser, enabling the essential accurate measurements and detailed analyses critical for semiconductor industry applications.
In addition to their research in quantum computation and semiconductor precision measurement, the team at Precilasers used PPLN crystals to generate the specific wavelengths crucial for optical clock development.
Working with their laser modules, (FL-SF-813-15-CW and FL-SF-759-10-CW) the researchers designed a system which enabled the generation of the specific wavelengths required for manipulating atomic states with utmost precision. This in turn provided the stability and high-quality output necessary for accurate timekeeping in an optical clock setup.
Covesion‘s PPLN crystals were also employed by the engineers at Precilasers for laser cooling and trapping techniques allowing them to achieve precise control and manipulation of atomic particles. Researchers were able to effectively manipulate atomic motion and achieve the low temperatures necessary for fundamental studies in quantum physics and atomic spectroscopy.
