About ID Quantique (IDQ)
IDQ has over 40 engineers with more than 500 years of accrued experience in the highly multi-disciplinary fields required to transform quantum technologies into industrialized products. IDQ develops, produces and sells state-of-the-art equipment for the quantum technology sector including Quantum Key Distribution systems, Quantum Random Number Generators, Single-Photon detectors, (based on single-photon avalanche detector- SPADs and superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors - SNSPDs), Timing electronics and pulse lasers.
Their products are used by governments, enterprises, and industrial customers and by academic research labs in more than 60 countries and on every continent. In addition, IDQ is committed to establish standards in the emerging quantum industry, and is working with several organizations such as ETSI, ITU to bring standardization and assure quality across the industry.
The Use of Covesion PPLN Technology
Félix and his research team at ID Quantique purchased a frequency doubling waveguide with oven controller from Covesion. The waveguide was used to convert 1560 nm, 6 ps long pulses of light from a fiber-based modelocked fiber laser to 780 nm. The pulses were used to measure the time jitter of IDQ’s superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors.
The type of laser that IDQ needed to measure the time jitter of their superconducting nanowire single photon detectors was not available in the same format at the necessary wavelength. In sourcing the frequency doubling waveguide from Covesion, IDQ were able to successfully and cost effectively proceed with their product development.
Non-linear frequency generation is an efficient way to get desired output wavelengths with low phase noise, high beam quality and narrow linewidth for quantum technology. As a leading supplier of PPLN based wavelength conversion products Covesion is able to offer advice on customer specific solutions, as well as technical support in their set-up, use and optimization. With an extensive portfolio of commercial off-the-shelf products as well as having custom design and manufacturing capabilities for nonstock items, Covesion is well placed to support the widest range of wavelength conversion applications.
Why Covesion?
"As Covesion’s products are so well documented, we were able to easily select the waveguide we needed and discussions with Covesion’s team were helpful and clear. The product works well and is used regularly by the team here at IDQ.”
