Our team has many years of experience in the manufacture of Periodically Poled Lithium Niobate (PPLN) frequency conversion solutions selling to both R&D, and OEM customers. Location: Unit F3, Adanac North, Adanac Drive, Nursling, SO16 0BT, & University of Southampton, Optoelectronics Research Centre, Building 46, University Road, Southampton, SO17 1BJ.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week flexible between 06:00-16:30 Mon to Thurs, 06:00-13:30 Fridays.

Main Duties

The successful candidate will work within the Delivery Team and report to the Device Processing Team Leader. Working between the F3 production site and University of Southampton clean rooms, the successful candidate will carry out a range of production processes to fabricate Covesion’s high-quality PPLN devices for customers and project partners. This will include photolithography, sputtering, furnace processing, dicing, poling, polishing, acid processing, inspection and characterization, along with other wafer or chip level processes. Processes will be carried out as per the production schedule time scales, efficiently, accurately and achieving high levels of quality. Some general administration will be required as part of the role.

Responsibilities:

  • To carry out production processes to deadline, ensuring efficient production of PPLN devices.
  • To report exceptions in processes and quality to the Team Leader.
  • Liaise with other Delivery Team members to ensure that the production schedule is adhered to.
  • Demonstrate good clean room practices and behaviours.
  • Identify and suggest improvements to production processes.
  • General administration including completion of process logs and quality reports.  
  • Ensure the company policies including Health & Safety are adhered to at all times.
  • Promote and demonstrate the Covesion values.

Knowledge, skills & experience:

Essential

  • Experience of wafer scale optical or semiconductor device processing in clean room environments.
  • Relevant degree education or equivalent knowledge gained through a similar position/ industry.
  • A methodical approach to identifying and raising issues that arise in lab environments.
  • Good dexterity and manipulation of small and delicate components and equipment (mm scale components, microscopes).
  • Ability of work effectively both as a team and as an individual in a production environment.
  • Able to solve problems with minimal supervision where appropriate.
  • Computer literate: Excel, Word and other Microsoft packages.
  • Flexible approach to work.
  • Reliable and trustworthy.
  • Clean driving licence and own transport.

Desirable

  • amiliar with lean methodologies such as 5S.
  • Experience handling a range of chemicals including acids.
  • Knowledge of optical waveguides, non-linear optics, PPLN and its characteristics, optical AR coating technologies.
  • Experience of R&D environments.
  • Exposure to small multidisciplinary team environments.
