In today’s world, where advanced photonics underpins countless technological breakthroughs, Covesion is proudly positioned as a global leader in non-linear frequency conversion technologies. Operating from our headquarters and manufacturing facility in Southampton, UK, we specialise in magnesium-doped, periodically poled lithium niobate (MgO:PPLN) crystals and waveguides. Covesion’s British-made solutions are powering pioneering work in quantum science, laser systems, and environmental monitoring around the world.

As a UK manufacturer with global capability, Covesion is relied upon by leading institutions to supply wavelength conversion solutions throughout North America, Europe, and Asia. This international footprint demonstrates our ability to design, manufacture and distribute critical photonics components for scientific, industrial, and commercial applications across global markets.

At the heart of everything we do is our dedication to British manufacturing. As proud members of the Made in Britain initiative, Covesion is part of a wider network of manufacturers committed to quality, integrity, and craftsmanship. This affiliation not only reflects our values but also assures our customers, both in the UK and internationally, that our products are engineered, and built to the highest standards of precision and reliability

Our core expertise lies in the development and production of MgO:PPLN crystals and waveguides, which are engineered for highly efficient non-linear frequency conversion. These components are critical to converting laser light from one wavelength to another and are essential to a wide variety of advanced applications.

Supporting second harmonic generation (SHG), sum and difference frequency generation (SFG/DFG), and optical parametric oscillation (OPO), our products serve a wide range of sectors including quantum computing, mid-infrared generation, terahertz imaging, femtosecond laser frequency doubling, environmental sensing, and biomedical diagnostics. Beyond our standard offering, we provide custom design and fabrication services, working closely with customers to deliver bespoke grating designs, unique prototypes, and scalable OEM solutions tailored to specific system requirements. To guarantee performance and stability, we also manufacture precision temperature controllers, ovens, and other thermal management electronics to simplify integration of our technologies into complex optical setups. With high non-linear coefficients and outstanding optical properties, Covesion PPLN technology is trusted in the most demanding laser environments.

Bringing together experienced research scientists, optoelectronic engineers, and product development specialists from both academia and industry, the Covesion team has over 20 years of heritage in frequency conversion. This unique knowledge means we are well equipped to provide expert guidance, system integration support, and innovation-led solutions for our customers worldwide.

While we’re proudly based in the UK, our reach is truly global. Our technologies are trusted by some of the world’s leading institutions, including CERN, NASA, and Stanford University, and our products play a vital role across a spectrum of industries, from aerospace and defence to telecommunications and quantum technology. With manufacturing rooted in the UK and established global fulfilment capabilities, we offer seamless access to our technologies for partners and customers across international markets. Whether supporting a quantum lab in California, a telecoms innovator in Germany, or a research institute in Japan, Covesion’s global presence is built on a reputation for quality, reliability, and responsive service. We are well placed to capitalise on this growth thanks to our advanced capabilities, agile manufacturing, and relentless focus on quality and innovation.

At Covesion, we exemplify the best of British manufacturing, blending scientific expertise with engineering excellence and global ambition. By continuing to innovate, collaborate, and uphold our commitment to quality, we remain at the forefront of non-linear frequency conversion technologies. We proudly manufacture in the UK while serving the world, bridging innovation with application in every major photonics market. We're proud to fly the flag for British photonics on the world stage and excited about the future we are helping to shape.
